Zig Zag Railway. Dating from the 1860s, this famous line takes steam trains from the Blue Mountains to Lithgow on weekends, school holidays and public holidays. The zig zag lines passing through two tunnels are a unique piece of engineering.

Faulconbridge: The stone cottage where risque Australian artist Norman Lindsay lived for most of his life is open and houses and important collection of his works. If you saw the movie Sirens, starring Elle McPherson, and loved it you will enjoy this wonderful insight into the artists' life. The Norman Lindsay Gallery is a must.

Lapstone Zig Zag Walking Track: This track follows the original little zig zag railway line and takes in panoramic views of Penrith and the Cumberland Plain.

Leura: The mums and daughters will love Bygone Beautys, at Leura, an antique centre and tea rooms where you will find an amazing collection of teapots, jewellery, dolls and other treasures. It's a real step back in time.

Lithgow: For a fascinating look at glow worms, make a night adventure to the Glow Worm Tunnel, at the Newnes State Forest, north of Lithgow. There's lots to be seen along the tunnel's 400m length.

Wentworth Falls, Blue Mountains National Park: The falls are a great day out for the family who loves to bushwalk and explore. Walks range from a short 10 minutes, to all day treks for the very fit on marked trails.
