along the coast from the Royal National Park, south of Sydney,
to the Shoalhaven River, the region is ideal for leisurely touring
and weekend escapes.
The Blowhole
at Kiama attracts visitors from around the world. Kiama is
an amazing contrast of rugged coastlines with the rolling green
hills of the Jamberoo For something straight out of the Far East
don't miss the Nan Tien Buddhist Temple, at Berkeley. The
prime objective of the temple is to promote cultural exchange
and promote understanding of Buddhism in the Southern Hemisphere.
Set on 55 hilltop acres, the temple comprises the Great Hero Hall
(main shrine) with five majestic Buddha statues and 8000 niches
of smaller Buddha images around the walls. Regular tours and courses
in Buddhism are available.
Jamberoo
Recreation Park, Jamberoo. Enjoy the thrills and spills of
the giant water slides, face the challenge of a hair-raising mountain
slide (toboggans), leap into deep water from the rock five metres
above, play mini golf or enjoy the spectacular views from the
chairlift. Other activities include a mini racing car track, high-powered
mini boat rides around the lake or a bobsled with goes up to 70kms
per hour. The park features picnic grounds and barbecue facilities.
Minmurra
Rainforest Centre, Jamberoo. An elevated boardwalk will take
you through several types of rainforest with over 90 different
species of ferns and over 80 different species of native trees
including the rare Illawarra fig, red cedar, cabbage tree, palms
and Elkhorns. Wildlife includes lyrebirds, parrots and honeyeaters.
Be sure to take time to do the two-hour return walk to Minnamurra
Falls. The first 900 metres of the walk has wheelchair access.
Symbio
Koala Gardens, Stamwell Tops. Here you will find 120 species
of animals including Ostrich, Deer, Emus, Dingos and at least
50 child-friendly free roaming Kangaroos. Be sure to check out
the Pelicans, Tasmanian Devils, Koalas, Peacocks (including rare
white ones) and baby Monkeys.
