Griffith
- This prosperous town is a centre for wine and gourmet food.
Just walk around and take in the unique atmosphere, browsing in
the many interesting shops and cafes. Tour the countryside and
sample the great wines, most famous being the dessert wines. Every
Sunday between 7am and noon Griffith's well-known Bazaar and Flea
Market in Wakaden Street comes alive.
Gundagai
- Visit the famous Dog on the Tuckerbox five miles from Gundagai,
and take in this very typical Australian pioneering country town.
Built in 1932 this famous monument was inspired by the famous
ballad of Jack Moses.
Hay Goal
- Take in the Hay Gaol, established in 1878 which was also used
as a maternity hospital, lock hospital for the insane, compound
for prisoners of war during and finally as a maximum security
institute for girls. The goal now holds a detailed local history
collection.
Hermits
Cave, off Scenic Drive, Griffith - The cave was once the home
of Valerio Riccett, a jilted miner from Broken Hill. By the end
of his eventful life the citizens of Griffith held him in such
high regard they collected money and sent Valerio back to Italy
for the final three months of his life. Call into the visitors
centre for a copy of his fascinating story.
Pioneer
Park Museum, Griffith - Set in 18 hectares of natural bushland,
this museum features 40 historic buildings and hundreds of historical
items from the early pioneering days. There's also a low-cost
accommodation complex.
Berry Juice
Factory, Leeton - One of the largest fruit juice processors
in NSW. The 45-minute guided tour includes all aspects of juice
production from start to finish.
Sunrise
Centre, Leeton - The SunRice Centre is located at the Leeton
Rice Mill and has an excellent presentation on Australia's rice
industry including video, photographic displays and milling demonstrations.
A visit here will be very worthwhile for school-aged children.
