its source in the High Country, the Murray is one of the world's
great rivers, flowing through river red gum forests, wetlands
teeming with birdlife, rich agricultural land and busy river towns.
Here is your chance to discover the charm of the paddle steamer
era.
* The Binghi
Boomerang Factory, at Barooga, is Australia's leading manufacturer
and exporter of quality Boomerangs. See all the stages of production
as well as boomerang throwing demonstrations.
* Deniliquin
Island Sanctuary. A natural parkland area situated behind the
visitor information centre with picnic facilities and a sanctuary
with emus, kangaroos, birds and ducks. Some access for disabled
persons.
* Ettamogah
Village, Lavington. The village is straight out of the cartoon
drawn by Ken Maynard for Australian Post magazine. Aussie counter
lunches or counter teas are available. Have a beer in one of the
bars or out in the beer garden. Close by you can visit the blacksmith
shop or wander down to The Ettamogah Winery for some tasting.
* Gumnut Land,
at Echuca, is a model village made entirely out of Jarrah and
Sheoak Timbers, Gumnuts and Flowers. There are over 30 individually
handcrafted buildings, a school, homesteads, shops, station and
a church.
* The Hume
Weir Trout Farm is set in beautiful landscaped 15km from Albury-Wodonga.
Trout are raised in huge growing ponds and may be fed by visitors
with special fish food available at the farm. Children will love
the cool grotto, where it is possible to walk behind a cascade
of water. Catch your own Trout and cook on the BBQ's provided.
* A winner
of the NSW Museum of the Year Award, Jindera's Pioneer Museum
is rated world class. The store is stocked with authentic goods
of the 19th century, while the living area at the rear is furnished
in its original style. Contains a valuable collection of 19th
century glass, china, cutlery, jewellery and clothing, farm implements
and equipment and a slab hut at the rear.
*Murray Bank
Yabby Farm, Corowa. Bring the family and try the age-old skill
of yabbying. Cook your own catch (bag limit) or enjoy a barbecue
or picnic lunch. There's also farm animals to pat.
* Sharps Magic
Movie House and Penny Arcade, Echuca. See and play one of the
world's largest collections of penny arcade machines actually
operating on pennies. Have your fortune told, test your strength,
skills and lovability, see the peepshow once banned in this country.
Over 30 working machines to have fun playing. Movie shows throughout
the day.
* Take time
to visit Yarrawonga's Tudor House Clock Museum, with over 400
time pieces. There's an 1858 illuminated alarm clock, which strikes
a match lighting a lamp with the alarm setting, a rare 1810 Austrian
wood carved lion and cupid with eyes going left to right and a
1780 English grandfather clock.
* Tyntyndyer
Homestead, at Swan Hill houses one of the rarest and most authentic
collections of pioneer memorabilia and aboriginal artefacts in
Australia.
* World in
Wax Museum, Echuca. See up to 60 life-size figures and, for children
of all ages, over 30 miniature dioramas by Hugh Tussaud.
